Theo Schmidt is one of the earliest developers of solar boats. With this catamaran he realised the first almost-crossing of the English Channel in 1987 (a couple of miles missing). This boat runs at exactly 10 km/h under full sunlight without battery. (In 1997 Englishman Malcolm Moss realised the first complete crossing with a somewhat larger catamaran).

Theodor Schmidt has built several similar boats, solarized and planned several larger ones, developed the first nautical mains-feed concept on the Solifleur of Pro Natura, and is now (2000) working on the Soliris project (solar ship with accomodation for 30 young people). He is a specialist for high efficiency propellers [3]. Email: schmidt(funny a)umwelteinsatz(dot)ch
